Economic Jitters Dampen Holiday Sales Growth Projections

According to the National Retail Federation, holiday spending will increase only 2.8% this year over last year's surprising strong sales. Total holiday spending is expected to be $465.6 billion. Retailers are expected to hire nearly 500,000 seasonal workers, jobs that are sure to be a welcome respite from continued unemployment across the country.

Individual spending is expected to drop slightly this year to $704.18.
