Who is Lining Google’s Pockets Today?

Ever wanted to know how much advertisers spend on Google Adwords? It probably comes as little surprise that Google has taken over as the search engine of choice for 4 out of 5 online advertisers. Nor, that this form of search advertising accounts for nearly all of Google’s revenue. We have broken the figures down to daily spending, in order to illustrate Google’s highest spenders, and how much they are spending. It would be interesting to see how efficient these ads were for spenders…

Before any stupid comments are made I just want to state that it’s possible to advertise with both Google AND Yahoo to create seemingly impossible statistics.

Micky Rosa: Jimmy got a job at Google.
Ben Campbell: Jim… Jimmy got a job at Google?
Micky Rosa: Yeah, it’s catchy, I know.
Ben Campbell: Well, if you’re making so much money at this then why did he take it?
Micky Rosa: Ben, I said Google, not Sizzler.

Shaky numbers… Based on your 59 Million per day combined daily spending….works out to 22B per year. Market cap(from google finance) is 149B/22B is a price to earning ratio of 6.77. Yet google finance gives a P/E of 32.7.

I think combined daily spending from advertisers is closer to about 12.2 M

    Hey Matt,

You’re substituting Revenues in for E which stands for Earnings (Revenue – Operating Costs).

    Josh,

Very creative way of displaying information.

    @Matt F
I’m pretty sure P/E ratio is profit to price, this graphic is talking about revenues.

    80% advertise with Google
    33% with Yahoo!
    12% with MSN

    80 + 33 + 12 = 125%(?)

    Good one!

Actually, this is not an error. It is correct, since advertising on Google is not mutually exclusive to advertising on other SEM providers. Advertisers who advertise on Google AdWords also advertise on Yahoo!, but not all advertise on all three.

@ Walker, @ Chris: Please note that advertising is not mutually exclusive between search engines. For example, you will see Expedia ads in both Google, Yahoo and presumably in MSN. This is not a Google v. Yahoo piece, although that would be interesting.

So Google pays Google to advertise on Google? I can possibly see this, but you’re gonna have a hard time convincing me it is profit.

And Google is not an cannot ever be a monopoly because their motto says so.

And everything a rich and powerful coropration says is true, as long as it is not Microsoft.

Which is why those I’m a Mac ads are so true too in every way. Because a Mac is not a personal computer because THEY SAY SO

  31. September 23rd, 2009 at 19:49 | #31

Do companies like Nextag, Bizrate and Shopping.com really have that much money to spend on google adwords? Im in the wrong business.. should set up shitty click-thru sites to get money.
